Blatnikove kratke priče prevedene su na više od trideset jezika. Prevodi njegovih knjiga izlaze kod uglednih inostranih izdavača. Piše radio drame i prevodi s engleskog (Anais Nin, Stiven King, Silvija Plat, Pol Bouls). Dobitnik je <em>Zlatne ptice </em>(1984), <em>Župančičeve nagrade </em>(1991) i nagrade <em>Prešernovog sklada</em> (2002) i učesnik brojnih književnih festivala i programa za pisce. Roman <em>Promeni me</em> bio je među pet romana u finalu za nagradu <em>Kresnik</em> za najbolji slovenački roman 2009. godine. Radi kao urednik Cankarjeve založbe i predaje na Katedri za Bibliotekarstvo, informatiku i izdavaštvo na Filozofskom fakultetu u Ljubljani. He appeared on numerous literary festivals around the globe such as PEN World Voices in New York City, Toronto International Festival of Authors, Jaipur Literary Festival and Cosmopolis in Barcelona, and was a participant of the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, USA, in 1993. He received various fellowships, including Fulbright.
